Dying Young: Black People Dying in Horror Movies →
At first, this isn’t too impressive. Until you scroll down and realize there are fourteen pages.

I’ve been listening to Christmas music almost exclusively for the past week. A few observations:
1. “Little Drummer Boy” is one of the worst songs ever, regardless of genre.
2. I don’t know the words to most of these jawns. It’s like church songs. “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas/Toys in every shop/And the...

The List →
I was feeling inadequate about only having twenty-eight of the top fifty until I reminded myself that some normal people only own twenty-eight CDs total.
For funsies, I went 8/10 with my predictions, though I had the order way off. Linking to your own tumblr is more postmodern than Jean Baudrillard writing found poems and eating his father in a diner.

Hulu's Feature Films →
If you haven’t been to Hulu in a while, it’s about time you checked in. They’ve been putting up some really good full-length movies lately. The one I linked to (you can’t embed these unfortunately) is Go, Doug Liman’s criminally underrated 1999 ensemble piece. Speaking to its box office, it was also one of a handful of times I was the only person in a theater at a...
Rolling Stone's Albums of the Year →
‘Tis the season to make fun of corporate entities’ year-end lists. Other than the mandatory old guy stuff, it’s not a bad one honestly. But a Bob Dylan rarities collection as number two? I own forty-three Bob Dylan albums. He’s the living person I would most like to meet. I consider him a real-life superhero. But two CDs of outtakes are not making my list.
Paul Thomas Anderson fans had been searching for years for copies of his early short films, “Cigarettes and Coffee” (above) and “The Dirk Diggler Story,” the inspirations for Hard Eight and Boogie Nights, respectively. Within a month of each other, they’ve surfaced online. Watch them while you can.

Ebert continues his run of not giving a shit what anyone else thinks. I love it.

I thought all Black people used no-name mp3 players that plug directly into your USB port. This dude is opening my eyes.
People have been sleeping on this lately, even though it went over pretty well at Cannes. It’s doing a quick qualifying run before coming out in late January. I’ll see absolutely anything Soderbergh shoots, but I have to admit I’m not too jazzed about 238 minutes of this.

This is the worst list he’s ever put out, but it’s still an event every year. And the descriptions are shameless.

“Animal-rights organizations, pet stores, and adoption centers have spent years trying to get across the message that a pet is a huge responsibility which should be chosen by the owner, not by someone looking for a quickie present. Another thing that’s a huge responsibility? Ownership of a sentient being. Especially a sentient being which—if the owner doesn’t follow a few weird,...
